A Love Day !

Phew ! What a day it has been. It's way past midnight and to have to wake up early for college tomorrow, i know i should be in bed by now. But i really want to share this with you all tonight. So i guess i will just endure this exhaustion for a few more hours.

It was about a couple of weeks back when a random thought about how plain this Valentine's Day was 'also' going to be, left me with a keen desire to do something this year. I thought of ways and finally my heart chose to 'love the unloved'. I decided to spread love and smiles to innocent little kids. :) And so with the help of my friends' and my friend's friends, we made a rough plan, chipped in money, did a whole lot of shopping and reached the orphanage early this morning.

Located in Baluwatar, Kathmandu, Aishwarya Children Home was founded by Mrs Nirmala around 6 years ago. There are about 35-40 children living there, ranging from ages five till seventeen. And oh how sweet they are ! Or better described, Disciplined !

Upon entering the room, we were greeted with warm faces that smiled 'Namaste Sir/Miss'. And after a brief conversation, we started with the cooking. I swear i had no idea it would be that difficult to prepare a meal for almost half a hundred people. But it was enjoyable and the environment was just so merry with all that singing and dancing. Then came the most fun part -  Games ! :)

Tug Of War

Musical Chair

Seeing them happy made me much more happier. :)
After the activities, followed the prize distribution, and finally the much awaited lunch. Since it was already 3 in the afternoon, every single person was so famished that it took no time for the 'just served' plate to get empty. Thank goodness, the food turned out yumm. At least better than expected. Haha.

I knew a cake would undoubtedly brighten up a child's face. And so we'd got a big heart shaped strawberry one that read,
'Happy Valentine's Day.' :D

Excitement Overloaded :)

Dessert brought us closer to the end of the day. Those cute little kids sang a song or two for us which in turn made us blush with shyness as we could not even do that. The most we could do was to give them each a mini goody bag consisting of a pencil, an eraser, a sharpener, a ruler and a few pieces of candy.

The Mini Goody Bag

And finally after capturing all the beautiful memories in a single group picture, we left the orphanage in the evening. As i stepped outside, i told myself that i would visit them again one day; for i have so much more love to give. :)

Cheeeeessseeeeee :D

I have done something good today. I have loved. Off course i know that we do not have to wait for a special day to express our love. But how can we simply let a 'love' day pass by without loving and without being loved? I surely could not have.

Today, i have loved, and i also know that today, i have been loved.
By those beautiful children

Story of a Big-Sized Girl

I want you to take a look at this first.

Take that !

I was actually searching for random 'FAT' quotes on Google when i came across this one. And boy, it was love at first read. The reason? Well, don't you just love it when someone other is kind enough to write exactly what you'v been wanting and trying to but couldn't?  ;)

Yes, i am Fat. Or in a slightly less harsher word, Overweight! According to www.healthstatus.com, the ideal healthy weight for my 5ft 7in frame should be 143 pounds. But off course, i weigh more than that. And No, don't expect me to reveal those big double digits. I never do. Blame it on those who overrated weights and numbers !

I have always been on the heavy side. As far as i know, i have been that way my whole life. The only time i took a trip around the other side was once when i was a small sick girl and twice when i was a depressed teen girl. So depressed to be thin, i went on a 2 weeks crash diet. Sugar free crackers and plain fiber porridge (the worst food ever) was pretty much the only edible stuffs i survived on. And i won't hide the fact from you that i even cried myself to sleep one evening after watching my family enjoy a sumptuous meal without me, right in front of my blue eyes. Yeah, i had forced myself to that extent. I'm sure you can imagine how desperate i was to lose weight, to look beautiful. My happiness knew no boundaries when my sacrifice paid off. Just like magic, there was suddenly no 'muffin top' when i put on my 'once so tight' pair of jeans. After a whole month of hell, my bathroom scale had announced it loud and clear that i weighed 10 pounds lighter. :D

Little did i knew that 3 years down the line, i would be laughing at my own act. Haha.
I was just 19 then. Not at all smart enough to know that i'd attempted the most unhealthiest way to shed weight. Tragedy struck when the fats slowly started piling back on my body. But i didn't give up. I continued dieting time and again. I even tried every available exercise from yoga to aerobics to kick-boxing to dancing to skipping. It would not work. Even though it did at times, somehow the results never stayed permanently. I would gain it all back even faster. Something just was not right.

But i guess rather than giving excuses, i would put the blame on myself. I so don't have patience, especially at this area. I know it takes time for results to show but my expectations are to that point where i look at my body in detail already on my 2nd/3rd day of diet. And when i see no changes even after a week or two, i give up. That easily ! I wonder how and where all that motivation fades away. And another reason why i know losing weight for me is 'as difficult as nailing jelly to a tree' is because of my love for food. Hands up, i admit i am fat because i eat; a lot ! I can't help it. I am crazy for food. I love eating. My love for food is so abysmal that i sometimes feel i was born just to eat. Eat to live or Live to eat? I am definitely the latter. Eating is my passion.

My family always persuades me to eat everything i want, but in moderation. Not stuff myself, which i tend to do most of the times. It is off course, but a tough thing for me. So i guess maybe only after i learn to balance the relationship of my love for food and my desperateness to lose weight, will i ever find my place in the 'Right Weight' of the health chart.

But more than that, what i have learnt over the years is to love my body. Even though i am the same size as before, i am now more comfortable and confident in my own skin. Unlike in the past, i don't loathe what i see in the mirror these days. I love my curves. And i love how every part is right where it should be. I believe every 'body' is different yet beautiful in their own way. The deal is to love the way you are, no matter  big or small. I have seen girls fussing about their 'Oh-So-Perfect' bodies. I may not be perfect but i am at least way more happier than them. :)

Saying that, i don't mean i will just let myself eat more and welcome those unwanted pounds. Off course i will continue my attempt to get more fitter by eating right and staying active. I shall have to understand the fact that nothing comes easy and that i have to be prepared to fail a thousand times more before reaching my goal. Even if i fall, i shall stand up again and keep walking.

My hidden message here to all the 'not-fat' people out there is, 'Never criticize us'. We may be differ in body size, but we have the same heart size like you do. And you never know when 'karma' might take its course. So even if you do mean good for us, tell us in a nice way. Or don't open your mouth at all. As simple as that !

And for 'my' girls, always remember that we don't have to be skinny to look good. If confident enough, we can also look much sexy with our fleshy fleshy curves. ;)

Got what i meant? ;)

My Quiet Angel !

Here, i introduce you to one of the very few people i truly trust after my family.
Prasuna Dangol is her good old name and yes, she is the one i proudly tag as 'My Best Friend'. :)

Say the word Friendship and she is the first one to cross my mind. And has been crossing since the past 5 years. Though i don't remember the exact day and date, i do know that it was June of 2007 when we first met in college. It was during Sociology class when i went up to her to start a conversation. Now, that was very strange cause i normally don't make the first move. But i guess that act makes sense today.

Then : Pretty and Prasuna

And the rest is history. We've come along this far and i have to tell you that this was so not intentional. I mean, we didn't plan and decided on being BFF. We never chose each other. Destiny chose us !

Ours is a companionship so same yet so different from any other best friends out there. What we share is what 'we' share. Well, i am actually trying much to express what makes us but somehow, i can't seem to find the right words. Or is it that maybe there are no such words in the dictionary that can define a bond so undefinable?

Off course along with Spring, we have had our share of Autumn too. Misunderstandings, cold wars and rows ! You name it, we'll admit we've been there. But i guess that's where the beauty of it all lies; Still being besides each other even after the drama, much more tighter then ever. I have understood and appreciated the fact that we have matured beautifully together.

What i admire the most about our valued friendship is how easily we exchange the roles of the Mighty Mind and of the Humble Heart. It is like when one listens to the heart, the other reminds by playing the role of the mind. And when one listens to the mind, the other reminds by playing the role of the heart.

Now : Prasuna and Pretty

I call myself blessed to be the half of something this pure. And i know that while some people may enter our lives just for a season, this lovely lady is here to stay ! :)

My love affair with Quotations :)

Sunday was when i wrote my first post. And it's a Thursday today. Twice or maybe thrice was the number of times i tried to compose something/anything within those 4 days. But i simply could not.
I couldn't even manage to complete a line or two. I would sit in front of my Lenovo and just stare blankly at the screen.

And that's when i realized, ''Writing is not possible if you're writing just for the sake of writing.'' (Well, at least for me.) Or in Nepali, ''Lekhchu bhanera lekhindaina rahecha.''

To write, one should feel !
The soul must have to be shaken by the heart or the mind.
The soul must have to possess either joy, sorrow, confusion or anger.
The soul must have to feel !
And the writing will eventually follow.

But sometimes, in exceptional cases, it just happens. The alphabets themselves comes together as words and sentences. Something like what just happened with me. My mind was not working at all and my only plan for the time being was to share with you some of the sayings i had quoted. But then i ended up crapping about the relationship of emotions and words up there. Haha.

Anyways, let me get back to the intended topic.
Oprah Winfrey once said, "Here's what my love affair with quotations has taught me : the more you focus on words that uplift you, the more you embody the ideas contained in those words."

Oprah Winfrey, my beautiful inspiration !

And that hit me straight away. I went down memory lane and recalled how much i had changed, how much maturity had absorbed me and how much optimism had ruled me. Without doubt, i knew it was the experience i faced. But more, i knew i had to give the credit to all those positive quotations by random hopeful people as i would like to call them. All those hours spent Google-ing for quotes seemed worth it.

The message here is, like Oprah and like me, "Have a love affair with quotations." Don't just read it, but believe in it. For Quotations, i assume are learnt lessons. They are wise words coming from people with experience and repeated for a good cause. I can assure you that this would be one relationship where it won't hurt to love. ;)

Below are a few quotations i proudly call my own.

  • We cannot please everybody. It's impossible. No matter how good or bad we are doing, there's always some people who criticizes us. So, the best thing to do is to just please our own self and be happy. :)
  • When in doubt, go to your closest friend for advice. Cause when we are the heart, they are the mind. And vice-versa.
  • Before giving up, think about it once again. Why do you want that thing/person so much? And give it one more shot, regardless of the result. Even if you don't win, there will at least be no regrets. Cause you know you did all that you could have done. But hey, you never know, that one last try might just prove out to be a miracle. :)
  • Remember that you are 'YOU' first before you are somebody's lover, sibling, friend, child or parent. You are your first priority. This is not about being selfish. This is simply about learning to love yourself first. Then only will you be able to love the people in your life.
  • Don't let anyone's words or actions affect you. Life is too short to let one bad person ruin your entire day. Go out and live your life. Eat-Drink-Laugh-Enjoy. ;)
Life is never easy. There is always something going around in every single person's life. But reaching to this point, i can confidently tell you that, "Life is 10% of what happens to us and 90% of how we react to it." Trust me, it is all about the attitude. And with that, i hope you take everything positively that comes your way. Not only today, but everyday of your life. :)

Ending this post, i hope you will focus more on those words that uplifts you.
And i wish you a life-long happy relationship with positive quotations !

Till my next post, Eat-Pray-Love !

And here i go...

Hmm, so how do i start this? After a whole hour of designing my page, here i am writing my first ever post on my first ever blog. Excited. :)

Blog ! This word is not so old to me. It has not been much since i actually came to know that there is such a thing as an Internet diary. My first thought was, Cool ! That was around a year back. And since then, i have attempted a hundred and one times to start one of my own, but somehow i never did. But as they say it's never too late, here i am in this cold winter night, finally penning down my thoughts.

To tell you the truth, i have no idea of what i want to write about. And strangely, there are lots of things i want to write about. All i know is that i want to write. Well, analyzing from the kind of person i am, what i can expect you to expect from me is 'feelings in the form of words'. Let's just say that i will be telling you about random things that happens in my life. Things i see, things i learn, things i feel, things i realize.  Like I've entitled; My Life as it Comes !

Introducing myself, i am a 21 year old woman with 2 names. 'Pretty' as the official name given to me by my father, and 'Sara' as the name preferred by all my loved ones given to me by my mother. Born on the 28th of June, i am a pure pure Cancerian. Trust me, whatever you read on the Cancer section of that Astrology page, i am all that. Emotions makes me and emotions breaks me. I feel.

I took my first breath in Singapore where i stayed for the 1st decade of my life. But a Nepali is who i am by blood. And so since i was 11, i have been calling this place Kathmandu, my home.

OK, i think i should tell you the reason for starting this 'not so personal' diary. Or at least i think that is the reason why. Well, i recently got fired from my job as a radio presenter in one of the most reputed media houses in my country. While i still don't think i deserved it, i have already digested that bitter fact. And as it was the first time i got sacked, you can imagine what went through my mind. But i swear i took this failure very positively. It was then the comfort messages that started pouring in and suddenly i found almost everyone telling me to start writing. And i thought, 'Hey,why not?' :)

Writing is something i have always been interested in, ever since i can remember. But somehow, i have sadly only limited myself to writing quotes and statuses in my Facebook page. Off course, poems and songs and short stories was something i did during my mid-teens, but that habit didn't come along with me when i left school for college.

And it was someone who recently suggested that i should start my practice with a blog. A mentor as i would like to call him, i clearly remember his advice, '
The more you write, the more you write.' Planted in my brain !

So, with no particular topic such as fashion or food, i will simply write what i have to. One thing i can assure you is that you will breath positivism in my page.
For optimism, is my newly found religion.

Your path to a happy life. :)

With hopes that you will be inspired by my thoughts and with hopes that my writing will get better with time, here i start my journey. :)

Till my next post, Eat-Pray-Love !
